What's new

Release history for AstroGrid. New entries are added when the version is bumped.

v1.2.2 Latest

✨ New

  • New Floating Report a bug button on every legal, support, and What's new page so feedback is one click away from anywhere in the docs.
  • New Custom color picker for personalising marker and label colors — pick any hex shade instead of being locked to the preset palette.

🔧 Improved

  • Updated Settings panel gains a wider set of customisation options — fine-tune visibility toggles, label density, and marker styling to taste.

🐛 Fixed

  • Mission markers no longer clutter the default view on first launch — they now ship hidden and stay tucked behind the visibility toggle until you turn them on.

v1.2.0

✨ New

  • New Account & Sign-in guide section — covers what works without an account, what an optional Google sign-in will unlock (cloud-saved custom stars and Scene Editor sequences), and how to opt out.
  • New Deep Links reference section — every mode, body, mission, scenario, and zone has a stable URL with a clickable sample. Includes universal query parameters (?view=, ?q=, ?debug=1).
  • New Static What's new page (this one) wired into the footer of every legal/support page.
  • New Lagrange points (L1–L5) for the Sun–Earth and Earth–Moon systems, shown as toggleable markers with stable labels.
  • New Keyboard shortcuts panel — a single press of ? opens a categorized cheat sheet of every shortcut.
  • New Mission label & visibility system — missions, probes, and constellation labels now share a unified declutter pass with smooth fade in/out.

🔧 Improved

  • Updated Screenshots gallery reorganised into seven themed grids: Solar System close-ups, Earth orbit & missions, Simulators & creator tools, Celestial views, Milky Way & deep space, Night sky observation, Tutorials & onboarding.
  • Updated Privacy policy, Terms, and User Guide updated ahead of the upcoming Google sign-in (scope, data handled, opt-out path).
  • Updated Pretty domains: assets now served from cdn.velonspace.com, with branch-aware hostnames for preview vs. production.
  • Updated Onboarding routing: first-time visitors land on /welcome; returning visitors go straight to /astrogrid. Older legacy slugs (/nightsky, /planet/earth, …) are auto-redirected.

Notes

  • Backend infrastructure for the upcoming sign-in (Supabase auth + a Cloudflare API Worker, isolated membership module) has been wired up. No user-facing changes yet — the login button arrives in a follow-up release.

~v1.1.27

🔧 Improved

  • Time-speed buttons flash when you press , or . so the keyboard mapping is obvious.
  • Smoother brightness and bloom transitions while a scene tour is playing.

~v1.1.10

✨ New

  • Six mid-sized Saturn moons added with 2K surface textures: Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Iapetus.
  • Each moon's orbit line uses its own hue, so you can tell crowded systems apart at a glance.

🔧 Improved

  • Moon orbit trails are now thinner than planet orbits, reducing visual noise around busy systems.

🐛 Fixed

  • Coordinate handedness corrected so the new Saturn moons match real ephemerides.
  • Stopped attempting to load convention-named textures for moons that don't ship one.

~v1.1.0

✨ New

  • Voyager 1 and 2 now have a guided fly-to camera walk along their actual trajectories.
  • Trajectory lines render only for the selected probe, keeping the deep-space view readable.

~v1.0.44

✨ New

  • Scenario tours: pre-built guided sequences through key cosmic phenomena.
  • Gravitational lensing pass kicks in when the camera is close to massive objects.
  • Ambient audio bed with proper volume controls and language-aware credits.

~v1.0.30

✨ New

  • Scene editor: keyframe-based camera playback with hold times and per-language narration overlays.
  • Frame snapshot tool for sharing exact views as images.

🔧 Improved

  • Adaptive quality kicks in when the frame rate drops, keeping the experience smooth on lower-end machines.
  • Search now matches looser variants of catalog tokens such as M-series, NGC, and HD.
  • Orbit trails fade with a 540° head-to-tail gradient, matching how moons trail planets visually.

~v1.0.20

✨ New

  • Full Korean and English internationalization across the entire app, with smooth language transitions.
  • Night-sky observation mode: constellations, deep-sky objects, and a location picker for your latitude / longitude.
  • Background music with multi-track shuffle.
  • User Guide pages with shortcut tables and inline screenshots.

~v1.0.10

✨ New

  • Procedural 3D Milky Way model with arm structure, dust lanes, and per-region brightness.
  • Cosmic web overlay showing superclusters, filaments, and walls at the largest scales.
  • Eight-tier distance scale UI with proper astronomical units (AU, ly, kly, Mly, Gly).
  • Deep-link sharing — copy a URL that restores the exact view, target, and camera on load.
  • Earth-surface labels for major countries and cities when the camera is near home.

~v1.0.0

✨ New

  • Full solar system: planets, major moons, real orbital elements, and Kepler-based propagation.
  • N-body gravity simulator with a "cosmic cannon" mode — fire 14 different body types into orbit and watch the chaos unfold.
  • 13 historical and active missions (Hubble, JWST, ISS, Apollo, Artemis, Voyager, and more).
  • Live satellite catalog rendered from real TLE data.
  • Star field at real magnitudes, with constellation lines and named bright stars.
  • Kepler exoplanet field with click-to-fly-to and a browsable list panel.
  • Photoreal galaxy sprites for nearby major galaxies, plus deep-sky objects with soft halos.
  • Realistic-vs-exaggerated scale toggle so you can switch between visualization and true proportions.
  • Glassmorphic HUD, sidebar panels, and parabolic eased camera fly-to.
  • Sun gravity-well shader that warps the grid, plus per-planet gravity wells for the cannon mode.
  • Distance attenuation and declutter logic so labels never pile up at any zoom level.
